Serious accident in Ahlum: Fiat driver fights for her life!
There was a serious traffic accident in the Salzwedel region on September 11, 2025, which drew the police's attention to a current trend: alcohol and drug abuse in traffic. That's what she reports [Sachsen-Anhalt.de](https://www.sachsen-anhalt.de/bs/pressemitigungen/polizei/polizeirevier-salzwedel?tx_tsarssinclude_pi1%5Bacti on%5D=single&tx_tsarssinclude_pi1%5Bcontroller%5D=Base&tx_tsarssinclude_pi1%5Buid%5D=598121&cHash=a6caf812944d932cb7d4f24cbea4f152) about a seriously injured driver and several offenses that endanger road safety.
On the morning of September 11th, 2025, at exactly 9:20 a.m., a 43-year-old Seat driver and a 67-year-old Fiat driver wanted to pass each other on the B248, junction to Tangeln. The Seat driver turned left onto Ahlumer Straße while the Fiat driver was overtaking. As a result, the vehicles collided, with the Fiat leaving the road and landing in a corn field. The Fiat driver was seriously injured and had to be taken to hospital. A breath alcohol test for the Seat driver showed a blood alcohol level of 0.6, which led to a blood sample being taken at the hospital, police said.
Drug driving without a license
But the day before, on September 10th, there was an incident that showed how dangerous drug use on the road is. A 42-year-old Skoda driver who stopped in front of the Salzwedeler Tor turned out to be an unauthorized driver. In addition to not having a valid driver's license, the driver's drug test came back positive for amphetamine and cannabis. Here, too, administrative offense proceedings are initiated, which could result in high fines.
In general, driving while under the influence of illegal drugs is a misdemeanor even if there are no noticeable symptoms. According to information from Polizei-Beratung.de, in such cases there is a risk of fines of up to 1,500 euros and a driving ban of one to three months.
Consequences of driving on drugs
The dangers of drug use on the road should not be underestimated. According to the ADAC, even the smallest amounts of drugs such as cannabis or cocaine in the blood can lead to a prison sentence of up to five years because there is no tolerance level. This particularly applies to new drivers and people under 21 years of age. It is also important to know that combining drugs and alcohol further increases the risk.
Road safety could be significantly improved through better education and increased controls. A medical-psychological examination (MPU) may be required after drug use and driving license revocation. The costs for a drug-driving case can easily be between 5,000 and 7,000 euros, including all possible administration fees and follow-up training.
In conclusion, the police in the region are actively combating such offenses and every responsible road user is called upon to take the risks of road traffic seriously. Whether with alcohol, drugs or without a driving license, the consequences are disabling and endanger not only your own safety, but also that of other road users.
