Manslaughter in Dessau: Dispute ends fatally – trial brings clarity!
Since April, a trial at the Dessau-Roßlau regional court has drawn public attention to the dark side of jealousy and alcohol. A 47-year-old is on trial for manslaughter after she is said to have run over her partner with a car on the night of October 27, 2024. This is a tragic incident that was triggered by an argument during a company Christmas party MDR reported.
The argument broke out when the man, with a blood alcohol level of 2.2 per mille, staged scenes of jealousy and accused his partner of not wanting to take him with her. In the midst of this argument, he sat on the hood of the vehicle as the woman tried to drive away. She accelerated and dragged the man, who then fell under the vehicle. According to a forensic medical report, he died of chest compression.
Alcohol and drugs involved
Both people involved were heavily intoxicated: the woman had a blood alcohol level of 1.5 and cannabinoids and cocaine were also detected in both of them. Such extreme values are not only problematic, but also dangerous. In Germany there was a significant increase in traffic accidents under the influence of alcohol in 2022 Goslar Institute an increase of 19% compared to the previous year. With 38,771 accidents, a worrying picture emerges in terms of road safety.
The trial, which is expected to last until early June, has so far brought to light a large number of witness statements. The defense argues that the defendant acted negligently, while the prosecution sees intent to kill and is demanding a prison sentence of ten years. The defendant denies intentional action and had a statement read out by her defense attorney.
Impact and possible penalties
The question for the defendant is what legal consequences will follow from their actions. It should be noted that drinking and driving is strictly regulated in Germany. If the alcohol content exceeds 1.1 per mille, the driver's license is considered revoked, which could be relevant for the woman in this case. The insurance company could also reduce or deny compensation in the event of an accident under the influence of alcohol, like this Goslar Institute explained.
The verdict in this case is expected next Monday. Expectations are high and society is following the process closely as questions about responsibility and the dangers of drink driving are raised.
