Fire devil rages in Bitterfeld-Wolfen: Police are looking for witnesses!
In Bitterfeld-Wolfen, a worrying series of fires has heated up citizens' minds in recent weeks. Former cultural institutions, which are mostly empty, are particularly affected. The police then set up a separate investigation team to shed light on the background to the incidents. Mayor Armin Schenk is calling on the population to help because the situation is serious. After all, there have already been several fires in old buildings, including a cinema, a former supermarket and a discotheque. These incidents not only leave people in the area worried, they also raise questions: What is the so-called fire devil doing?
As observations show, it came onAugust 3, 2025to three fires within 24 hours in Wolfen. Initially, the local fire department was alerted to a fire on Wittener Strasse in the afternoon, where a former discount store went up in flames. Support came from the Thalheim fire department. The operation lasted until the evening and ended successfully. The following day, theAugust 4th, the entrance area of an old cinema burned down. Here too, the fire brigade was quickly on the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished and the emergency services searched the building for other possible sources of fire.
The impact on the community
The incidents have put residents in Bitterfeld-Wolfen and the surrounding area on alert. The investigators are specifically asking possible witnesses in order to better understand the temporal and local focal points and to clarify whether there may be a connection between the fires. There have been other fire-related incidents in the region in the past, including in a former tax and land registry office as well as in an empty apartment building and a restaurant in Roßdorf. The area around Raguhn-Jeßnitz was not spared either; frequent fires in bowers and forests increase the feeling of insecurity.
Mayor Schenk has expressed concern about the situation and appeals to citizens to remain vigilant and provide information. This commitment could be crucial in tracking down the perpetrators. The security situation is particularly important at a time when the numbers of burn injuries and deaths in Germany are still alarmingly high. Comprehensive fire statistics could help to improve fire protection and prevent future incidents, but according to the experts at FeuerTrutz, they are not yet fully available.
Finally, it is hoped that the investigation will quickly produce results and the community can return to normality. If there are further investigations or important developments, we will report on them.
