On Sunday, June 29, 2025, the 85th Fritz Eugen Tour will take place in the Salzland district. The event starts at 9:30 a.m. at Saalplatz in Bernburg and is aimed at trained recreational cyclists who want to complete the approximately 70-kilometer route at an average speed of around 15 km/h. Under the leadership of Uwe Schlegel, participants can experience the beauty of the newly built R1 cycle path, which not only leads through picturesque landscapes but also to interesting destinations. The route stretches from Bernburg to the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district and includes exciting detours. A highlight is a visit to the lido, where you can take a refreshing break, followed by onward journeys to Cörmigk and Köthen. A special stop will also be made at the Acacia Pond near Aken, where participants can view the changes since the flood in 2013 and the closure in 2018.

Another nice point is the break in the old bakery in Gramsdorf. Here participants can look forward to a pleasant tour and a coffee break. The fee for this exciting tour is 3 euros, with food costs and entry to Gerlebogk having to be borne by the participants themselves.
There is a small note that there may not always be signage on the new trails. It is therefore advisable to be a little flexible and pay attention to the feedback from tour leader Uwe Schlegel. If you have any questions, please call 03471/623594 or email usbbg@web.de.
The European cycle path R1
The European cycle path R1, on which the Fritz Eugen Tour takes place, is one of the most important cycle paths in Germany and offers the opportunity to cycle from Calais in France to St. Petersburg in Russia. In Germany the route runs from the Dutch border to the Polish border and leads through Münsterland and Saxony-Anhalt. An extensive route that crosses the regions and offers numerous attractions such as Frose Collegiate Church, the old town and Bernburg Castle as well as many other highlights along the way.
For the R1, the quality of the path is consistently good, although some sections can be narrow or unpaved. The route's location in relatively flat terrain allows cyclists to enjoy the natural beauty and diversity of the landscapes. In addition, the signage was renewed in 2007 and is understandable for long-distance cyclists.
The next few weeks promise an exciting cycling experience, especially with the upcoming Fritz Eugen Tour. For anyone wanting to explore the area, this is an opportunity to experience the region at its best. Get your wheels ready and enjoy your days off on two wheels!
