Major fire in Deetz: Former ice cream parlor in flames, fire brigade on duty!
A dramatic major fire shook the tranquil community of Deetz in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district on Saturday morning. At around 7 a.m. a fire broke out in the former “Seestern” ice cream parlor, which quickly developed into a full-scale fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as was the case with both MDR and Volksstimme report.
More than 90 emergency services, including the local fire departments of Deetz-Badewitz, Jütrichau, Aken, Lindau and a hoist unit from Zerbst, were on site to tackle the flames. City fire chief Denis Barycza explained that the water supply was difficult during the firefighting work. The emergency services nevertheless made great efforts to get the fire under control. After intensive extinguishing measures, the all-clear was finally given around midday.
Units in action
By 9 a.m. the situation was so serious that the first local fire departments were alerted. The Zerbst fire department mobilized over 70 emergency services, and additional fire departments in the area were alerted in order to mitigate the catastrophic effects of the fire. The situation was particularly challenging due to the smoke development, which resulted in a disaster warning. In addition, the energy supply in the entire street was switched off to protect the emergency services, which made the work even more difficult.
Damage and causes
According to the city fire chief, the former ice cream parlor can no longer be saved and is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is currently unclear. The remaining extinguishing work is planned until the afternoon, as MDR reports.
A look at the fire statistics in Germany shows the need for constant efforts in the area of fire protection.
