Innovative wind farm in Elster: Wittenberg is committed to a green future!

The Elster wind farm in Saxony-Anhalt is on everyone’s lips. On August 16, 2025, Christian Tylsch, the district administrator of Wittenberg, visited this impressive facility and was able to see for himself the advantages of modern wind power. Together with Mayor Peter Müller and Armin Willingmann, the Environment and Energy Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, he praised the innovative repowering project, which combines fewer wind turbines with higher yields and reduced noise. Tylsch emphasized that the wind farm is not only energetically efficient, but also represents a source of profit for the municipality - more than 300,000 euros flow into the municipality's coffers every year.

“Exemplary work is being done here,” says Tylsch, who took an elevator directly into the generator to experience the technology up close. This latest generation of wind turbines is considered to be quiet and meets all modern standards. MDR reports that the project is also known for the fact that there is little resistance among the population. Mayor Müller attributes this to the residents' long-term habituation to wind power.

Creative solutions for space use

An important aspect of the wind farm is the successful collaboration between the Seyda agricultural cooperative and the investors. Ralf Donath reports that it was possible to use areas for the wind generators in such a way that agricultural use was retained at the same time. This cooperation helps to alleviate the worries of farmers who were concerned about the loss of arable land.

Another plus: wind turbines require significantly less space compared to photovoltaic open spaces. In the shadow of these turbines, for example, well-developed alfalfa grows, which serves as high-quality animal feed. This sophisticated use of space is proving to be a real success model.

A positive perspective for the region

The development of the Elster wind farm is viewed as a showcase for future projects in the region. In Jessen, the second local municipality, the income is somewhat lower, but also makes a valuable contribution to the financial stability of the community. This innovative technology and cool management have not only ensured a positive economic situation, but also promoted the acceptance of wind power among the population. MDR emphasizes that the Elster wind farm is a benefit in several respects – for the environment, the economy and society.
