No new cases in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district – trend reversal?

The Corona situation in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district appears to be pleasingly stable on July 4, 2025. The total number of people who tested positive in the district is 73,129. In Saxony-Anhalt overall, the situation looks similarly good on the same day. Only 1 new infection was reported here, raising the 7-day incidence to 1.0 per 100,000 inhabitants. However, with 996,973 people testing positive since the start of the pandemic, the region overall shows a persistent infection history. The 35 to 59 age group in particular represents the largest proportion of infections with 391,333 cases.

Outlook on the Corona variant Nimbus

The new Corona variant, known as Nimbus (NB.1.8.1), is particularly interesting. This was discovered in January 2025 and classified by the WHO as a “variant under observation”. However, so far there is no evidence of more severe disease progression, which can hopefully reassure the population.

Booster vaccinations cover 58.60% of the population, which is a positive indicator of the progress of the vaccination initiative.
