Tragic head-on collision: Driver with 2 per mille speed injures three people!

A serious traffic accident occurred on Saturday evening in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, more precisely in Raguhn-Jeßnitz, where a head-on collision between a VW and a Seat resulted in several injuries. The dramatic incident occurred around 8:40 p.m., which captivated not only the motorists involved, but also numerous onlookers. The volunteer fire department took over the scene of the accident on site and provided first aid to the injured, including both drivers (41 years old) and a passenger in the Seat, who fortunately only suffered minor injuries. They were then taken to surrounding hospitals.

As far as the circumstances of the accident are concerned, the driver of the VW had an alcohol level of a whopping 2 per mille, as confirmed by a breath alcohol test. This is more than four times the legal limit of 0.5 per mille. According to the legal requirements, a level of 0.5 per mille would already constitute an administrative offense, which could result in fines of up to 500 euros and a driving ban of one month. This dangerous driving style is now followed by criminal proceedings for endangering road traffic, and the VW driver's license was confiscated on site. The events highlight the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The legal provisions are clear. If you have a blood alcohol concentration of 1.1 per mille, you are considered completely unfit to drive and the consequences are serious. According to ADAC, if the value is above 1.6 per mille, medical-psychological examinations (MPU) must be accepted in order to continue to be allowed to drive. These legal regulations exist for a reason: drinking and driving not only endangers your own safety, but also that of all other road users.

The [Saxony-Anhalt Police](https://polizei.sachsen-anhalt.de/das-sind-wir/themen-von-a-bis-z/ Alcohol-und-drogen-im-strassenverkehr?tx_news_pi1%5BcurrentPage%5D=0&cHash=7cad5f6a869cebc70c80338f6371b960) has recently always once again drew attention to the danger posed by drunk drivers. It is sometimes forgotten that a level of 0.3 per mille already indicates a relative inability to drive and that this can lead to further sanctions according to road traffic regulations. There is even an absolute alcohol ban of 0.0 per mille for novice drivers and those under 21. The consequences of an accident caused by alcohol are not only of a criminal nature. An insurance company that covers the damages of the other party in the accident can claim back up to 5,000 euros if the driver was drunk.

The overall situation in Raguhn-Jeßnitz should be seen as an urgent appeal to deal responsibly with alcohol on the road. Current events in particular make it clear how quickly a drunken, happy evening can turn into a serious traffic accident.
