Burglaries in daycare centers and diesel theft: police are looking for witnesses in Börde!

In recent days, police have drawn attention to serious burglaries and thefts in several cities. Of particular concern are the incidents in daycare centers, which are taking place at a time of increasing violence in educational institutions.

In Oschersleben, on June 24, 2025, between 6:06 a.m. and 7:17 a.m., a daycare center on Breitscheidstrasse was the target of unknown perpetrators. The burglars forced their way into the fenced area and destroyed an alarm system. Fortunately, according to initial findings, nothing was stolen, but the damage amounts to around 350 euros. This reports the Börde police station.

More break-ins and thefts

Another incident occurred at a tool shed in Oschersleben, where several items were stolen between June 21 and June 23, 2025. The damage is around 140 euros. There was also diesel theft in Erxleben: between June 22 and 23, 2025, a total of 1,110 liters of diesel were stolen from four trucks after the perpetrators forcibly opened the tank caps.

But the safety problems are not only found in Oschersleben. In Rüdesheim and Geisenheim, several daycare centers were hit by burglars between June 18 and 23, 2025, with cash stolen in Rüdesheim and electronic devices stolen in Geisenheim. These incidents raise concerns and call for greater protection of facilities and their young visitors. Information about the acts and other incidents can be given to the responsible police services such as the Rheingau-Taunus Police Department.

Increase in violence in daycare centers

The incidents go hand in hand with an alarming increase in violence in daycare centers, as recently reported by WDR. In 2023, almost 2,000 acts of violence were reported in daycare centers in North Rhine-Westphalia, almost twice as many as in the previous year. The majority of these acts of violence are committed by children on other children, while attacks by daycare staff have also been identified. It remains to be seen whether the incidents reported via the online portal will also increase security in these facilities or whether the staff will be overwhelmed.

The SPD member of the state parliament Nina Andriehsen has already expressed concerns, while Family Minister Josefine Paul has relaxed the requirements for daycare staff in order to counteract this staff shortage. These developments bring additional challenges that can have far-reaching consequences for both the children and the carers in these institutions.

In order to increase security in daycare centers and hold possible perpetrators of burglary or theft accountable, close cooperation between the public and law enforcement authorities is strongly recommended. It is important to be vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately.
