New bus stops in Meitzendorf: More safety and comfort for everyone!

There is reason to be happy in the community of Meitzendorf: The construction of two new bus stops at the cemetery on the K1167 district road to Jersleben has now been completed. As Volksstimme reports, this project is part of a larger plan that spanned three years and required a construction period of three months.

The new stops not only offer better connections to local public transport, but have also been supplemented with an approximately 70 meter long cycle and pedestrian path as well as a crossing aid over the street. These measures particularly improve access for students and seniors from the “Vogelbreite” residential area to bus lines 629 and 630, which now stop at the new stops.

The background of the project

The initiative for the new stops goes back to a village tour that took place in spring 2022 with the then local mayor Peter Hiller (CDU) and employees of the public order office. Suitable locations for bus stops were announced. The stops at the cemetery are the first measure of this project. Municipal mayor Frank Nase (CDU) explained that negotiations with the district administration were necessary for implementation because the stops were built on a district road.

The scope of construction turned out to be more extensive than originally planned. This primarily affected the design of the laybys, the creation of crossing aids and the installation of the waiting shelters. “We wanted to connect the ‘Vogelbreite’ settlement directly to the local public transport network in order to avoid narrow residential streets,” says Nase.

Where is the journey going?

However, the project is not yet completed. There are already plans to create stops for the sports field and the community center in the old fire department. In addition, the new cycle and pedestrian path will be connected to the commercial area and the train station. The budget has earmarked 30,000 euros for 2025 and a further 130,000 euros for 2026 to implement the next steps.

The Börde district, which is responsible for local public road transport in Saxony-Anhalt, is also active in these developments. On the website of BördeBus Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH anyone interested can find all the information about the bus route network and timetables. In addition, the local transport plan aims to make local public transport attractive in order to further promote mobility within the district.

Sustainable, user-oriented local transport is also the goal of the [Austrian local transport plan](https://mid.sachsen-anhalt.de/architektur/verkehr/nahverkehr/plan-fuer-den-oeffentlichen-persons local transport of the state of saxony-anhalt-2020-2030?tx_news_pi1%5BcurrentPage%5D=0&cHash=83d27d15266f748fa263905ccf1af8cd) for the years 2020 to 2030. This plan envisages connecting trains and buses as part of an overall system and promotes close cooperation between the districts in order to ensure economical and demand-based transport.

The new bus stops are not just a small step for Meitzendorf, but an important part of a comprehensive plan to improve public transport in the region. This not only increases the mobility of citizens, but also improves the quality of life in the community as a whole.
