Cycling for climate protection: Börde starts the third CITY CYCLING round!
There's a lot going on in the region again for everyone who likes to get around on two wheels! The Börde district is taking part in the popular CITY CYCLING cycling campaign from August 25th to September 14th, 2025. This is the district's third participation in this exciting Climate Alliance competition, which extends over a period of 21 days. The motto here is: cover as many everyday journeys as possible by bike!
CITY CYCLING not only promotes cycling, but it also actively contributes to climate protection and improving the quality of life in communities. The development of the number of participants shows how relevant this commitment is: in 2023, 95 teams with a total of 610 active cyclists cycled and covered an impressive 137,496 kilometers. The following year, 2024, the numbers increased to 141 teams and 1,394 cyclists who cycled a total of 284,050 kilometers. These are really strong achievements that show that cycling is very popular in the district.
Who can participate?
Participation in this great campaign is open to all people who live, work, belong to a club or attend a school in one of the participating municipalities. In the Börde district, the municipalities of Barleben, Haldensleben, Niedere Börde, Oebisfelde-Weferlingen and Wanzleben-Börde have the opportunity to participate. But that's not all: People from non-participating municipalities can also join the Börde district's open team.

Support and encouragement
In parallel to these activities, the federal government supports cycling projects through various programs that aim to increase the quality of life in our cities. As part of the “Climate Protection through Cycling” funding program, municipalities can apply for support to implement their cycling projects. What is important here is the submission deadlines and the correct documentation that is on the website klimaschutz.de are described in detail.
The campaign is being carried out with great commitment by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Digital Saxony-Anhalt and the working group for bicycle-friendly communities in Saxony-Anhalt. V. supports. This impressively shows how important cycling and the associated commitment are for everyone involved.
