Construction investment boom: Saxony-Anhalt reaches record high!

There was a lot to be happy about in Saxony-Anhalt in 2022, as the investment volume reached an impressive 15.7 billion euros, marking the highest level since 2000. This means an increase of 0.7 billion euros compared to the previous year, like compact.media reported. A significant part of these investments, namely 8.3 billion euros, went into new construction projects.

Let's take a closer look at the details: Construction investments in the areas of financial, insurance and business services are particularly strong, with at least 4.5 billion euros. Real estate and housing also play an increasingly important role. Furthermore, 1.8 billion euros flowed into public and other services, as well as into the areas of education and health. Investments in new equipment and other systems, such as machines and vehicles, amounted to 7.4 billion euros.

Declines in certain sectors

Despite the positive overall development, there are also light and shadows. The development of investments shows that Saxony-Anhalt lagged behind the dynamic in a nationwide comparison. At the national level, investments in new facilities increased by 9.3%, while declines were recorded in specific sectors:

  • Handel, Verkehr und Lagerei, Gastgewerbe, Information und Kommunikation: -11,7 %.
  • Öffentliche Dienstleistungen, Erziehung und Gesundheit: -2,7 %.
  • Verarbeitendes Gewerbe: -10,1 %.

Focus on the construction industry

However, the construction industry is proving resilient. According to a report by meetingpoint-magdeburg.de The investment volume in this sector fell by 3.2% compared to the previous year, but a closer look at the numbers shows encouraging trends. Particularly noteworthy is the 38.7 percent increase in investments in buildings and land. 28.2 million euros were invested in road construction, which corresponds to an increase of 19.4% and thus accounts for around 30% of the total investment volume in the main construction industry.

The Harz district recorded the highest gross fixed investment in the construction industry at 15.3 million euros, while Dessau-Roßlau is at the bottom of the list with just 1.6 million euros. In addition, the finishing industry, e.g. construction installations, also recorded positive developments with an increase of 3.2%.

The future in sight

In summary, it can be said that, despite some setbacks in the investment sector, Saxony-Anhalt is on a solid path overall. With a clear focus on new construction projects and promising developments in the expansion industry, it will be exciting to see what trends will develop in the coming years. It remains to be hoped that the good approaches in the investment landscape will continue to be promoted and that Saxony-Anhalt will remain attractive for investors in the future.
