Haseloff is investing over 30 million euros in Zeitz's future!

In a significant step for the city of Zeitz, Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) handed over funding notices worth a total of over 30 million euros during his visit today. These funds, which are primarily in the context of the structural change in the coal regions, are intended to support local infrastructure and educational projects. The first stop of his visit was the secondary school III/primary school city center complex, where 17.8 million euros are being provided. Of this, 16.85 million euros come from federal funds and the rest from state funds, which are to be used for the renovation and modernization of Pestalozzistrasse/Schillerstrasse. mz.de reports that this represents an important investment in the future of our children.

The Prime Minister's second stop was the Zekiwa area, where he handed over a further 15.5 million euros for the “Reallabor Zekiwa Zeitz” project as part of the New European Bauhaus. These initiatives aim to develop innovative concepts for a modern living and working environment in Zeitz.

Coal phase-out and structural change

The coal phase-out, which was decided in 2018 by the federal government with the “Growth, Structural Change and Employment” Commission (KWSB), particularly affects the coal regions. The final report of this commission determined that coal-fired power generation in Germany should be ended by 2038 at the latest. To ensure that this transformation is successful, the Coal Phase-out Act was initiated, which contains comprehensive regulations and support for affected regions. At least 5,000 new jobs are expected to be created here in federal authorities by 2028 in order to cushion the economic losses. bmwk.de makes it clear that the federal government is providing up to 40 billion euros to enable appropriate structural aid.

But what happens after the coal phase-out? The “City of the Future Zeitz” project office has already been set up in Zeitz. It is located in the city center at Roßmarkt 13 a and offers space for ideas and exchange about sustainable solutions. The aim is to create perspectives for a new living and working environment that will help the city to reorient itself in the course of structural change. zeitz2035.de describes how concrete projects and design options for the future should be developed here.

Shaping the future

Prime Minister Haseloff's visit showed once again that something is moving in Zeitz. The resources allocated to education and the Zekiwa area are central to the development of the city. Despite all the challenges that structural change brings with it, there is also a great opportunity: if everyone pulls together, Zeitz can emerge stronger from this transformation. The new quality of life and innovative jobs could soon become a reality and make the city a pioneer in the region. The course for this has now been set.
