Kumbra Literature Festival: Peggy Patzschke impresses with her debut novel
On September 5th, 2025 the time has finally come: the Kumbra Literature Festival will open in the impressive Theater im Capitol in Zeitz. From 6 p.m., literature lovers can experience keynote speaker Peggy Patzschke, who will read from her debut novel “Bis ans Meer”. Admission begins at 5:30 p.m. and the event is organized by Sparkasse Burgenlandkreis and the Burgenlandkreis. If you would like to secure a place, you can register at silke.lorenz@spk-burgenlandkreis.de, as interest is great.
Peggy Patzschke, once a well-known radio voice and television producer, has now made a name for herself as an author, trainer and pastor. Her debut novel deals with a very personal and at the same time universal topic: the healing of inherited wounds and their influence on relationships and personal life. The story of Frieda and her daughter, who fled Silesia in January 1945, is outlined in a moving narrative thread. The author describes the cold and the challenges they had to endure in a way that is easy to understand.
A look into the past
The escape in winter temperatures and the loss of the familiar leave visible traces on Frieda's family. Decades later, her granddaughter wonders why she has difficulty with intimacy. “To the Sea” sheds light on the transmission of trauma within families, creating an understanding approach to a topic that affects many. It is this profound essence that distinguishes Patzschke's work and makes it a valuable contribution to the field of contemporary literature.
The opening of the literary event coincides with the Leipzig Book Fair, which takes place from March 27th to 30th, 2025. There will also be a conversation between Peggy Patzschke and Peter Hartlapp, which will allow the listeners to delve deeper into the topic. The podcast format “Under Books” will present another highlight of the festival, in which various facets of literature will be explored. In addition to Patzschke, other writers such as Tore Renberg and Sally Lisa Starken will also be part of the program.
A celebration of literature
This festival promises to be a colorful mix of readings, discussions and festivities that go far beyond the usual scope. It turns out that literature can not only be entertaining, but can also have healing powers. As organizers, the Burgenlandkreis, together with the Sparkasse Burgenlandkreis, is looking forward to an evening that has the potential to touch many people's hearts and make them think.
