Data protection scandal in Saxony-Anhalt: Micropro jeopardizes sensitive data!
In Saxony-Anhalt, the health office software "Mikrofro" ensures controversial discussions. The software, which is used in the Harz and Wittenberg counties to record highly sensitive data, shows serious security and data protection deficiencies. According to MDR Saxony-Anhalt, these problems were already discussed last year. Among other things, it is about reporting infections such as HIV and measles, mental illnesses and addictions that are all processed in the software.
The worrying points include insufficient encryption methods and missing data protection protocol functions. The health authorities fear that sensitive data can easily be viewed by unauthorized persons, which endangers the trust of citizens in the institutions. The data protection officer of Rhineland-Palatinate confirmed these concerns again in his current annual report.
technical defects and costs
Due to these defects, the Harz and Wittenberg counties have already taken the first measures to improve security and contacted the provider. "MicroPro" did not cost the counties a little: the district of Wittenberg alone paid around 116,000 euros for license and facility. The Harz district invested around 58,000 euros. In total, at least 225,000 euros from Saxony-Anhalt flow to "micropro", whereby the exact expenditure of the state government is unknown for an additional module.
The software is not only used in Saxony-Anhalt, but also in Thuringia. Research by Sentiguard reveal that the software processes the highly sensitive data such as Seht tests, HIV-diagnoses and tuberculosis and X-ray. Despite the serious security concerns, many health authorities see no significant problems with the software, which raises questions.
data protection in healthcare
dealing with personal data in healthcare is becoming increasingly complex. The introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU-DS GVO) In May 2018, there were major challenges that force institutions in the healthcare system to observe specific requirements. Beck E-Library underlines how important comprehensive data protection solutions are, the legal framework and the special requirements of the healthcare system.
In view of the current security situation, it is essential that health authorities in Germany make serious efforts to improve software configurations. The debate about "micropro" reflects a bigger problem: digital security and dealing with personal data has a high priority in healthcare, and it is to be hoped that suitable solutions will be found soon.Details | |
