From Monday, July 14th, residents and road users on Köthener Straße in Dessau will be challenged, as construction work on a new district heating pipeline will begin here. This is needed to better connect the Junkerspark industrial area to the existing infrastructure. Corinne Meyer from Stadtwerke Dessau reports that the route of the line runs in the area of the cycle path to the bus stop bay at Köthener Straße 61. The work will be carried out in several construction phases. The first section lasts until July 25, 2025, during which Köthener Straße will only be accessible towards the city center. Traffic heading out of the city will be rerouted via the Auenweg. From July 28th to August 8th, road users must expect Köthener Straße to be completely closed because the crossing is needed. The work on the right lane will then continue from August 11th until probably September 19th, 2025, where only one-way traffic regulations will once again apply. Last but not least, final work on the intersection with Otto-Mader-Straße is planned from September 22nd to October 17th.
Traffic changes and impacts on local transport
With the construction work there will also be adjustments to local public transport. Particularly affected is bus line 17, which will be rerouted in the direction of Kochstedt from July 14th to 25th and again from August 11th to September 19th from the “Plauthstraße” stop via Auenweg. Unfortunately, the “ Bürgerstraße “, “ Alte Straße “, “ Köthener Straße ” and “ Junkerspark ” stops will no longer be available during these periods. Passengers who want to go to “Junkerspark” are advised to change to the tram, while there are no restrictions towards the main station. During the total closure, bus line 17 will be rerouted in both directions via Auenweg, and the stops mentioned will be temporarily eliminated, as Dessauer Verkehrsbetriebe informs.
The Dessau public utilities emphasize that the changes are unavoidable in order to improve the connectivity of the Junkerspark commercial area and at the same time expand the modern district heating supply.
