Architecture Day 2025: Discover Saxony's architectural diversity!

On June 28th and 29th, 2025, a very special event will be celebrated in Saxony-Anhalt: Architecture Day, now in its 30th year. Over 22 locations, from the picturesque Arendsee to the historic Zeitz, open their doors and present a variety of architectural projects. This initiative aims to shed light on the social and cultural aspects of architecture while promoting discussion about sustainability and monument protection, such as World reported.

Visitors can look forward to a whole weekend with exciting program items, including the participation of hotels, museums, theaters as well as fire brigade buildings and playgrounds. There will not only be the opportunity to visit these places, but also to talk to builders, architects and urban planners. This offers an excellent platform for exchanging ideas about current projects and innovative approaches in construction. The focus is often on unused objects that should be renovated with a sensitive approach in order to conserve resources and preserve the architectural heritage.

Sustainability in construction

A central theme will be sustainable building culture. The event places particular emphasis on climate-friendly construction and the use of natural materials such as wood and clay. The Saxony Chamber of Architects highlights that almost 90 properties across Saxony will take part in the festivities, including schools, cultural institutions and housing projects.

The motto “Building diversity” is very important for this anniversary because it wants to focus on different perspectives and forms of expression in architecture. In addition to the visits, there will be guided tours, exhibitions and hands-on activities, which invite visitors to think and discuss.

Combine monument and climate protection

In Germany, monument protection is of great importance; this becomes particularly clear when you consider that around 3.5% of buildings are considered architectural monuments. But historical buildings that are not officially listed are often of great cultural relevance. Experts from the Building Heritage Foundation emphasize that around 80% of today's buildings should still exist by 2050. Energy-saving renovation is not only an ecological but also an economic necessity.

At the same time, it is noted that it is necessary to find individual solutions in order to preserve the specific characteristics and properties of each building. The aim is to combine monument protection and climate protection and not only preserve architectural features but also introduce new, energy-saving measures.

One thing is certain: Architecture Day next weekend will be all about dealing with important topics relating to building and the design of our living spaces. Be inspired by the diversity and experience architecture up close!
