Carmen Engel climbs the Wurmberg – running for the Harz!
What a challenge! The passionate trail runner Carmen Engel, who lovingly works as a teacher at the Einstein daycare center in Hordorf, has set herself a sporting goal that no one can achieve so quickly. On June 21, 2025, at 4:00 a.m. sharp, Carmen will fight for the height of Mount Everest, i.e. 8,848 meters, on the Wurmberg in Braunlage. What’s special about it? She will complete this route in 24 hours, accompanied by her loyal dog, Scottie.
For each of the 22.7 laps that Carmen has to complete - each lap measures 6.5 kilometers and involves 390 meters of altitude - private individuals, companies and brands can donate generously. 100 percent of the donations go to projects for reforestation and the preservation of the habitat in the Harz Mountains. This is exactly where Carmen not only relies on her sporting skills, but also on protecting nature. The lynxes are particularly close to her heart and she would like to give something back to nature, which can be felt in her role as trail running group leader for the German Alpine Club Braunschweig section. Further details about this great project can be found at Cremlingen online and sfu.de.
Fascination with nature and sport
Carmen Engel is not only an outstanding athlete, but also a passionate activist for nature conservation. Her project is organized by the German Alpine Club, and the support from the cable car operator, who quickly invited the entire daycare center on a trip to the Wurmberg, shows the broad interest in Carmen's mission. If the weather is good, the entire daycare center will climb the altitude with her on June 21st and get involved in a good cause. Anyone who would like to support the challenge can do so with donations. The account information for donations is simple: Braunschweig Section of the German Alpine Club (DAV) e.V., DE19 2505 0000 0000 5174 41, with the intended purpose: Everesting Wurmberg Carmen.
But it's not just Carmen who wants to work for our earth and its habitat. Supported in a broader movement by projects like Miles for Trees, it becomes clear how important reforestation is for climate protection. The goal of the project is to plant a whopping 100,000 trees by the end of 2025 - an impressive number that can only be achieved through the collaboration of athletes, supporters and sponsors.
Carmen Engel is a shining example of how commitment to the environment and sporting challenges can go hand in hand. Stay tuned and support this inspiring project! Who knows, maybe Carmen is not only running for altitude, but also for the hearts of many people who are committed to nature.
