Daimler-Benz crashes into deer: driver caught with 1.14 per mille!

There was a serious traffic accident in Halberstadt on the night of Thursday to Friday. At around 11:10 p.m., a 45-year-old driver collided his Daimler-Benz car with a deer that was crossing the road. The damage to the vehicle amounts to around 2000 euros sachsen-anhalt.de reported.

But that wasn't all that the police discovered when they recorded the accident. The officers noticed unusual behavior on the part of the driver. A voluntary breath alcohol test showed a level of 1.14 per mille, which means that the driver was in an area that is considered absolutely unfit to drive. Therefore, a blood sample was ordered to be taken and the driver was prohibited from continuing his journey. His driver's license was confiscated and an investigation was initiated on suspicion of drunk driving.

Alcohol and road safety

Drunk driving not only endangers the safety of the driver himself, but also that of other road users. Like the page of ADAC explains, there are clear alcohol limits: there is an absolute alcohol ban of 0.0 per mille for novice drivers and people under 21 years of age. Relative driving impairment begins at a blood alcohol level of 0.3. From 0.5 to 1.09 per mille it is an administrative offense. A fine of 500 euros is due here, as well as 2 points in Flensburg and a driving ban for one month. And from 1.1 per mille, driving even becomes a criminal offense.

A value of 1.14 per mille, as in the case of the Halberstädter, clearly exceeds this limit and has far-reaching legal consequences. For the driver, this could not only result in a driving ban, but also hefty fines and possibly even a medical-psychological examination (MPU) if future tests turn out to be similar.

Consequences of drunk driving

The consequences of an accident under the influence of alcohol should not be underestimated. Under certain circumstances, the insurance company can claim compensation of up to 5,000 euros if the driver culpably causes an accident while under the influence of alcohol. In almost every case, comprehensive insurance will not pay in full if the driver is not sober.

The 45-year-old's case will certainly trigger a lot of discussion in Halberstadt and once again raises the question of responsibility in road traffic. The current incident is a stark reminder of how important it is not to get behind the wheel while intoxicated.
