The chunk becomes a tourist magnet: Hard Rock Café and more!
Brocken, Sachsen-Anhalt, Deutschland - The Brocken, with its 1,141 meters the highest summit of northern Germany, soon conquered the heart of rock fans. On July 1, 2025, the area of the Brocken, which was previously in the hands of a merger from NordLB and Harzsparkasse, will officially become the property of the Harz district. For 3.5 million euros, the district secured the area, which is considered controversial by the State Audit Office, but has already had to show a signed contract. District Administrator Thomas Balcerowski (CDU) describes the change of ownership as the "historical day". This could set new impulses for tourism in the region.
The district's plans are ambitious: the chunk is to be upgraded for tourism. The conversion of the Telekom building into an event hall for up to 500 visitors and the construction of a barrier-free access building are planned. The idea of a hard rock café is particularly hot, inspired by a restaurateur from Wernigerode. Rock history could be experienced up close here!
