The largest witch's broom in the world: Harz celebrates its spectacular opening!

A new attraction is attracting the attention of visitors to the Harz: the spectacular observation tower in the shape of a witch's broom opened in Rothesütte on October 1, 2025. With a height of around 70 meters, it is not only the largest witch's broom in the world, but also promises an impressive experience for the whole family. The viewing platform is 44 meters high and offers a breathtaking view of the idyllic Harz forests and mountains, including the well-known Wurmberg and the Brocken. NDR reports that it took three years to build and weighs over 450 tons, making it a real heavyweight tourist attraction.

The stylized broomstick measures 24 meters and serves not only as a recognition feature, but also for signal transmission. At the foot of the tower, an adventure world is being created that deals with the topic of witches and regional history. But that's not all: the tower is surrounded by an adventure forest play world that was specially designed for families with children. Here, little visitors can play and let off steam, while older visitors can immerse themselves in nature.

Family friendly experience

The special highlights include two slides, one of which is almost 100 meters long and the other offers interactive effects. This makes the tower an exciting destination for young and old. Travel reporter also refers to an interactive exhibition in the base of the tower, where visitors can mix magical potions and even experience a virtual flight on a witch's broom. These innovative offerings show that emphasis is not only placed on views, but also on an entertaining and educational experience.

Opening hours are daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the entrance fee is 16.50 euros for adults and 10 euros for children aged six and over. Reduced admission prices are also available. To round off the experience, there are dining options in a former barracks on the site and paid parking is also available, making the visit completely comfortable.

More for the resin

The Harz Tourism Association highlights that around eight million overnight stays were recorded last year, with a slight decrease compared to 2023. However, in order to further increase the region's attractiveness, greater support from the state is required. Harz Travel points out that there are already many observation towers in the Harz, all of which offer a special view and a unique charm. However, with the new witch's broom, the region holds a special place in the hearts of visitors.

The Witches' Besen Tower is not only an architectural highlight, but also a sign that the Harz is constantly developing and remains a popular destination for locals and tourists. If that isn’t a “magical” development!
