A shocking weekend for bikers in the Harz: Last Saturday there were several serious motorcycle accidents in which a young man lost his life and others were seriously injured. Regional Today reports that a 24-year-old motorcyclist from Herzberg drove into oncoming traffic on the L515 near Lautenthal due to inadequate speed and collided with a Mercedes. Tragically, the young man died from his injuries at the scene of the accident.
The occupants of the car, a 79 and 78 year old driver and passenger from Senftenberg, were able to emerge from the incident uninjured. The accident meant that the route had to be closed for around six hours while a specialized team from the Goslar police investigated the accident scene.

But it wasn't just the fatal accident that went unnoticed in the reporting. Another incident occurred on Saturday morning on the L521 near St. Andreasberg, where a 70-year-old motorcyclist from Frankfurt am Main was fortunately uninjured when he crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with the bike of a 61-year-old woman from Berlin. However, she sustained serious injuries and had to be taken to a hospital; the damage to the motorcycles amounted to around 9,000 euros.
In addition, around 11:30 a.m., a 21-year-old motorcyclist from Kiel was injured on the B4 near Braunlage after he lost control of his vehicle in a left-hand bend and ended up in a ditch. He was also taken to hospital, while his motorcycle suffered a total loss of around 1,000 euros. Here too, the roads were temporarily closed due to the accidents.

Our region is not the only example of the dangerous situations that motorcyclists often face. Harz.News describes that a total of several serious motorcycle accidents took place in the area, with further injuries in other parts of the Harz. Rescue helicopters were also used to quickly transport the seriously injured bikers to clinics. The police also urge caution in this context and call on all road users, especially motorcyclists, to avoid excessive speeds and risky maneuvers.
