Insolvency shock in the Harz: Bohai Trimet is fighting for jobs!

The economic challenges in the Harz region are becoming more and more pressing, especially in the automotive supply industry. Bohai Trimet Automotive Holding GmbH from Harzgerode has filed for bankruptcy, which is making the already tense situation in the region even worse. The Halle (Saale) district court has now opened insolvency proceedings for all four of the company's companies. Despite these circumstances, operations continue at the Harzgerode and Sömmerda (Thuringia) locations. Production has already resumed and employees' wages are being paid by the company, as insolvency administrator Olaf Spiekermann confirms.

Bohai Trimet produces transmission, chassis and body parts for well-known German and Italian car manufacturers. The Harzgerode location has played an important role in the production chain of the European automotive industry for many years. Around 580 people are currently employed there, while another 98 work in Sömmerda. In addition, around 500 additional jobs are indirectly linked to Bohai Trimet's production. These numbers speak for themselves: the company's importance for the region is enormous.

Reasons for bankruptcy

The company's difficulties are not new and have worsened in recent months. One of the biggest challenges is the switch to e-mobility, which, according to managing director Damuszis, is a key factor in the precarious situation. In addition, high energy costs put a strain on profitability. Nevertheless, Damuszis sees potential for the Harzgerode location and relies on the specialist knowledge of the employees.

Local politics is also not idle. Mayor Marcus Weise (CDU) emphasized that the city wanted to do everything it could to support the location. Support has already been signaled in discussions with the Prime Minister, the Economics Minister and the district administrator. Weise emphasizes that the city is 100 percent behind its employees and must remain active in order not to fall into lethargy.

Regional shock and future prospects

The news of the bankruptcy sent shockwaves across the region as Bohai Trimet is the largest local employer. Many facilities such as kindergartens, schools, fire departments and even clubs depend on the industrial park. The city of Harzgerode is aware of the importance of the company and is doing everything it can to secure its future. Discussions are currently underway about possible investors who could have a decisive influence on the future of the plant in the Harz Mountains. The potential is there, but needs strong support to overcome the challenges of the time.

Looking ahead remains optimistic because, despite the current difficulties, there is hope for a positive turnaround for Bohai Trimet and the jobs associated with it. The city and companies want to tackle the challenges together and find solutions to reposition the automotive supply industry in the Harz.

The future of the plant in the Harz region remains exciting. If those responsible have their way, with a good hand, new paths will be taken to further strengthen the region.
