Fairytale hike: Günther masters the Harz in a wheelchair!

In the picturesque Harz there are not only impressive landscapes, but also a wealth of legends and stories that inspire generations. Carsten Kiehne, a passionate fairy tale collector from Bad Suderode, has been committed to keeping these stories alive for over a decade. Together with his partner Manuela Petri, he has published more than thirty books and offers guided hikes to experience the mystical atmosphere of the Harz Mountains. The region is a true El Dorado for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the world of myths, as news38.de reports.

On March 4th there was a very special hike to the old Paracelsus Harz Clinic. This three-hour tour gave participants the opportunity to discover the highs and lows of the region. Among the hikers was the older man Günther, who insisted on taking part despite his limited mobility. He wanted to take on the challenge with his electric wheelchair, but Kiehne was initially skeptical as to whether Günther could manage the steep climb. However, the group showed great empathy and helped Günther to master the challenging path - and with success!

An unforgettable experience

Once at the top, Günther was overjoyed and described this experience as the highlight of his hospital stay. Carsten Kiehne also saw the hike as one of the most beautiful experiences of his 14-year career. During this time he has already carried out over 1,500 storytelling events and hiking tours, like n-ag.net adds.

The Harz is full of myths and legends and is considered a treasure trove for exciting stories that illustrate the relationship between humans and nature. The Nature Myth Trail near Braunlage offers hikers nine hands-on stations that invite them to pause and think about the human connection to the environment. Here, visitors can not only learn more about the symbolic power of trees, but also make a wish on a wishing tree or find their way to themselves in the labyrinth. These stations are linked together by a “forest library” that offers in-depth information, as can be read on nationalpark-harz.de.

Accessibility in the Harz

A particularly notable aspect of Kiehnen's work is his commitment to making the Harz accessible to people with special needs. Its initiatives make it possible to experience the beauty and stories of this region, regardless of physical limitations. He shows that it is possible for everyone to discover the magical landscapes and captivating myths of the Harz Mountains.

The hikes with Carsten Kiehne are not only an opportunity to hear exciting stories, but also an opportunity to gain experiences together and enjoy the beauty of nature to the fullest. Adventure, education and community combine here in a very special way.
