Fairytale Valley Bad Grund: Rescue operation for the enchanted pleasure!
In the charming community of Bad Grund, which lies in the heart of the Harz Mountains, the fairytale valley is currently at a standstill. This popular destination, known for its miniature houses and dreamy pathways, has been closed due to urgent repairs. As [news38.de](https://www.news38.de/harz/article300588969/harz-news-maerchental-bad-grund-schliessung- repair-beliebtes.html) reports, the nostalgic place is mutating more and more into an overgrown area, which the once colorful signs and small buildings in decay present. Safety reasons and technical deficiencies were decisive for the decision to close.
The previous tenant, Kerstin Hoffmann, is faced with significant financial challenges. For this reason, in December 2024 she founded a support association with seven members to secure the necessary support for the reopening. But entry in the association register is still delayed because the members have to wait for the official certificate. In the meantime, the association has already taken the first steps: a grant from the Regional Association of Southern Lower Saxony was granted to help tackle essential tree work.
The challenges of reorganization
The Märchental urgently needs a new tenant because Hoffmann's previous tenants have to quit for health reasons, which makes the situation even more precarious. Additional storm damage to the adjacent mini golf course further increased the challenges and prompted the Hoffmann family to give up their lease, as harzkurier.de also notes. The Bad Grund spa and tourism association is trying to keep the community informed about this situation.
In order for the fairytale valley to unfold its magic again, three essential conditions are necessary before it can reopen: tree work, the revision of the technology and the piping of the waterfall. An e-check of the technology has already been financed through private donations. New windows have also been purchased for the miniature houses and a new small forest stage is being planned. The commitment of the association “Citizens Help Citizens e.V.”, which aims to promote the revival of this very special place through fairy tales and theater performances, is remarkable.
The future of leisure activities in the Harz
The Fairytale Valley is an important part of the leisure activities in the Harz, which is a significant attraction for many visitors. If no new tenant can be found, not only would a popular destination be lost, but the entire leisure activities in Bad Grund would suffer further losses. This is also reflected in the general tourist attractiveness of the region, which offers a wide range of offerings from winter sports to hikes and cultural events. The Harz attracts visitors with its 500 km of cross-country ski trails and alpine ski areas and should therefore not only focus on preserving the fairytale valley, but also promote other offers in order to offer guests an attractive overall package. Information on the current winter sports conditions is available daily from numerous partners in the ski areas and winter sports resorts as well as from the Harz National Park, so the region does justice to its diversity, as wintersport.harzinfo.de also states.
The next few months will be crucial in laying the foundations for a positive turnaround in the fairytale valley. Let's hope that this lively corner of the Harz region will soon come to life again and there will be new stories to tell!
