Fabulous hike: How Günther mastered the Harz in a wheelchair!

The Harz, a place full of legends and myths, always captivates people. Carsten Kiehne, a passionate fairy tale collector from Bad Suderode, is one of those who keeps the stories of this region alive. For over a decade he has been collecting legends, fairy tales and anecdotes, which he and his partner Manuela Petri have poured into more than thirty books. Kiehne, who is also active as a hiking guide, offers guided hikes to bring the mystical tales of the Harz Mountains to life. News38 reports that a very special hike took place on March 4th, which revolved around the old Paracelsus Harzklinik.

On this tour, Günther, an older man in an electric wheelchair, was a very special participant. Despite the challenge of completing the three-hour hike with its steep climb to the destination, he didn't want to miss the opportunity. Kiehne initially had concerns about whether Günther would be able to master the route. But the hiking group pitched in and supported him on the climb - a rather demanding but impressive experience. “That was the highlight of my hospital stay,” said Günther after reaching the summit. Kiehne also saw this hike as one of the most beautiful experiences of his now 14-year career. N-AG adds that its commitment includes over 1,500 storytelling events and hiking tours.

A path full of myths and legends

For Kiehne, the Harz is more than just a backdrop; it is a place of stories that are deeply rooted in culture. The nature myth trail near Braunlage in particular allows visitors to immerse themselves in the world of ancient myths. The relationship between people and nature is taught at nine hands-on stations. The experience points invite you to pause and reflect and present topics such as the symbolic power of trees or the relationship between wolves and humans. A wishing tree and a labyrinth also offer hikers the opportunity to find themselves and formulate their inner wishes. The Harz National Park emphasizes that myths are part of people's oldest cultural assets and offer insights into human thoughts and feelings.

The combination of culture and nature makes the Harz a magnet for hiking enthusiasts, history lovers and spiritual seekers. Kiehne and his groups help ensure that these fascinating stories are not forgotten and that people with special needs can also experience the beauties of the Harz Mountains. This makes the Harz accessible to everyone, making hiking a profound experience.
