Shocking donation scandal: How funds for Maurice-Joel disappeared!

A sad case shocks the community of Ottobrunn. Just a few months ago, 17-year-old Maurice-Joel Biermann received the sobering diagnosis of “DIPG” – an incurable brain tumor. However, after a courageous fundraising campaign by the local fire department, a shocking 90% of the funds raised have disappeared. So the family is left with only the little that actually made it through the support campaign after all the irregularities have been taken into account. Only around 10% of the donations went to support Maurice-Joel and his family, who have now taken legal action to investigate the disappearance of the funds. Two other affected families have also decided to take action against those responsible. There is suspicion of embezzlement by a member of the “Harzer Sonnenzwerge” club.

The fire brigade had launched the initiative to support Maurice-Joel, who was already in poor health and was now in a wheelchair. Despite his serious illness, the young man has big plans: He wants to get his school qualifications and pursue a career as a mechatronics engineer and firefighter, as he had already started his training with the fire department in Ottobrunn before his illness worsened further. His parents are now again asking for financial support via the platform gofundme for therapies and living costs, as they are dependent on additional financial resources after moving into a barrier-free rental house in Brunnthal.

Comfort in difficult times

The fate of young Maurice-Joel not only aroused the sympathy of his fellow citizens, but also that of the volunteer fire department and the school community, which actively supported him. The disease, which affects 25 to 35 children in Germany every year, has caused fear for the family and many associated with it. The average life expectancy after diagnosis is just nine months. Initial symptoms, including headaches and balance problems, eventually led to the diagnosis and were treated with chemotherapy – which initially raised concerns about his health.

The chairman of the “Harzer Sonnenzwerge” association, Frank Abraham, is passionately committed to the family and has reported positive progress with Maurice-Joel. The aim is not only to support the conversion of the apartment to make it accessible to disabled people, but also to provide a car for wheelchair users. Travel and medical treatments with a research drug from the USA are also on the plan. These additional measures could significantly improve the young person's quality of life, but cost around 5,000 euros per month - an enormous burden for the worried family.
