Old parish in Möckern: Book lovers meet for a reading group!
A very special event will take place in Möckern, a charming place in Jerichower Land, on Wednesday, August 20th: The Burger Reading Circle opens its doors and cordially invites all literature enthusiasts. From 10 a.m., bookworms and those who would like to become bookworms are welcome in the Old Parish to share the joy of reading and exciting discussions. [Meetingpoint_JL] reports that the leadership of the reading group is in the trusted hands of Karin Fischer - a former bookseller with a lot of experience and passion for literature.
The event offers a colorful program entirely dedicated to the spirit of literature. This includes a welcome from Fischer as well as insights into the eventful history of the old parish, presented by Dr. Kamilla Bühring, who is an initiator of the cultural development of the place. A highlight of the afternoon will be the presentation of post-reunification works by GDR authors. These literary pearls are not only interesting reading material, but also a contribution to cultural reappraisal and enrichment. After the book presentations, everyone present is invited to chat in a friendly atmosphere over coffee and cake and to discover new perspectives.
A historic place in new splendor
The old parish looks back on a long history. After a devastating fire during the Thirty Years' War, it was rebuilt in 1666 and served as a place for spiritual gatherings until 1995. However, the parish has remained empty in recent years. Dr. Bühring has now set itself the goal of revitalizing the historic site as an integral part of the community. [Meetingpoint_JL] shows: The event on August 20th is not only intended to inspire, but also to encourage people to set up their own reading groups and thus promote cultural life in the region.
Reading groups in Germany – a growing trend
Reading groups are becoming increasingly popular not only in Möckern, but also throughout Germany. This is supported by [Deutschlandfunk_Kultur], which highlights the central role that these groups play in the exchange between literature lovers. They are often small, intimate groups of five to ten people who meet regularly in a comfortable atmosphere - be it in the living room or in public spaces such as bookstores or libraries. The interactive discussion of books not only promotes understanding, but also opens up new perspectives on well-known works.
An example of a successful implementation of this idea is the platform [My_Literature Circle], which offers many useful tips on setting up and designing a reading group. The books recommended there are specifically selected for lively discussions, and the community actively contributes to the selection of new titles and topics. So every reader will find something that appeals to them and encourages exchange.
The Burger reading group in the Alte Pfarre not only offers an opportunity to exchange ideas about literature, but also a space to make friends and rekindle a love of literature. Anyone interested can register by email (kirchhof@benvivo.de) or by phone (03921) 72 97 818 until the day of the event - a unique chance to become part of this inspiring community!
