Driver in Güsen: side window smashed – witnesses wanted!

In Elbe-Parey, OT Güsen, there was an incident on Thursday, June 26, 2025 that is anything but pleasant for drivers. As the state police from Saxony-Anhalt reported, the side window of a parked Renault was smashed. The crime occurred between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. the following morning on Fontanestrasse. The perpetrators managed to steal a wallet containing official documents and cash from the vehicle.

The police took immediate action and secured evidence while a criminal complaint was filed. Information about this incident is also being sought. Witnesses are asked to contact the Jerichower Land police station on 03921/920-0. In a current situation like this, many of those affected are faced with the question of what insurance coverage looks like.

Insurance cover in the event of vandalism

Damage to vehicles caused by vandalism is often unpleasant for drivers. But what happens if such damage to property actually occurs? As a rule, the insurance costs for smashed side windows are covered by partial comprehensive insurance. As Verivox notes, these include damage caused by broken glass, but the rules vary depending on the insurer. In the best case scenario, the window will be repaired without leaving any valuable items in the car.

It is important to note that vandalism damage is comprehensively covered with fully comprehensive insurance. If no perpetrator can be identified, owners of a vehicle with only motor vehicle liability insurance are on their own and have to cover the costs themselves. Interestingly, damage caused by partial insurance does not affect the no-claims bonus, which is a positive aspect for many insured people.

Tips for injured parties

For those faced with vandalism, there is a clear course of action. First, the damage should be photographed to preserve evidence. The next step is to report the incident to the police and then inform the car insurance company to discuss further action. It is not always possible to determine who is responsible, and this is where good insurance can be crucial in reducing the financial damage.

In addition to vehicle insurance, home contents insurance may also be helpful if personal furnishings have been stolen from the vehicle, as this damage will be partially covered. It is therefore advisable to go through your personal insurance modalities carefully in advance.
