E-bike stolen, drunk truck driver and meter reading fraud in Burg!
In Burg, a lively town with many faces, there have been a few incidents in recent days that have made residents sit up and take notice. There was an annoying theft on Gorkistraße: a 36-year-old man discovered that his e-bike could no longer be found in the basement. As the police note in their statement, the theft happened between October 21st and November 4th, 2025. Apparently unknown perpetrators broke into the basement and took not only the e-bike but also the lock. The officers secured evidence and initiated a criminal complaint in order to track down the perpetrator. Another incident that caused a stir occurred on November 4th at 9:21 a.m. at the Conrad-Tack-Ring. An attentive witness reported a tractor-trailer that was driving in a serpentine line and traveling at a reduced speed. During the check it turned out that the 55-year-old driver was heavily intoxicated - with a breath alcohol level of 2.28 per mille. The driver was taken to hospital for a blood test and his vehicle keys and driver's license were confiscated. He is not allowed to continue driving and must also be prepared for legal consequences. Such reports illustrate how important it is to be careful on the road.
Traveling fraudulently
And as if that wasn't enough, reports of fraudulent meter readers were also increasing. On the same day, November 4th, at 5:00 p.m., two men rang the doorbell of an 80-year-old resident on Zum Paddenpfuhl Street. They posed as employees of a company to take meter readings and allegedly showed ID. While one of the perpetrators engaged the victim in conversation, the other searched the apartment. The result was a shocking steal loss in the low triple digits. The perpetrators escaped undetected and show how important it is to have suspicion during such visits and to protect yourself in order not to become a victim.
The police advise: Be careful of such situations, especially if strangers knock on the door. Protecting your own four walls should always be the top priority.
