Fifth graders in Burg: dinosaur welcome at the start of school at the Roland-Gymnasium!

A special event is taking place in Burg today: the new fifth-graders at Roland-Gymnasium are experiencing their second day of schooling. In a festive ceremony, 134 boys and girls fresh from primary school are warmly welcomed. Director Thomas Dreher describes the start of school life full of anticipation and speaks of an inspiring atmosphere that the new students bring to school.

The Roland-Gymnasium is not only the largest high school in Jerichower Land, but also a central educational institution for the region. A total of 859 students are enrolled here, divided into different classes and years, and 69 teachers are available to accompany the young people on their journey. For the new fifth-graders, the auditorium becomes the scene of a colorful welcome in which they not only get to know the school, but also some of their future classmates from higher classes.

A warm welcome

Students in class 6.5 in particular welcome the new arrivals and have come up with a small program for this. With their own version of the popular song “Cheers to Us” by Andreas Bourani, they get the fifth graders in the mood for everyday school life. The motto of the day is underlined by the surprising presence of a dinosaur, which provides entertainment and is sure to bring lots of laughs.

But it's not just the celebratory program that's on the agenda. In the coming days, the new students will have the opportunity to explore the school building. You will get to know your teachers, who will provide a successful introduction to school life with four “class leader lessons”. The first steps into your new life at high school come with a lot of excitement and some new challenges.

A look ahead to the next few days

The school management gave the new fifth graders a warm welcome and wishes everyone a great time at Roland-Gymnasium. For everyone involved, including parents and guardians, the holiday season is now over and the 2025/2026 school year begins with a lot of optimism. After today, lessons for the new year group end at 1.30 p.m. so that the children can become familiar with their new surroundings at an early stage.

In Germany, as described in the context of the school system, there is a diverse range of educational institutions. Each federal state, including North Rhine-Westphalia, has its own regulations and structures that influence learning and individual educational careers. The three-tier school system with its different school types enables students to be supported according to their strengths and interests.

In Burg, the start of the new school year is celebrated with great commitment and anticipation. The principal and teachers are looking forward to the coming months and are optimistic that the new fifth graders will quickly be integrated into the community.
