Intercultural Week 2025: Celebrate diversity in Jerichower Land!

Today marks the start of this year's event in Burg in Jerichower LandIntercultural Week (IKW). This special week of action begins on September 21, 2025 and celebrates you at the same time50th anniversary. Over 30 clubs, schools and committed citizens have organized 44 events to celebrate diversity and togetherness. Meeting point reports that the opening event will take place at the vineyard in Burg from 1 p.m. and will feature a colorful program with live music, international delicacies and a varied stage program.

The Intercultural Week has been launched since 1975 by the German Bishops' Conference, the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis and has since built up a broad network of sponsors. These include churches, municipalities, charities, trade unions and many more. "FOR THAT!" is the motto of IKW 2025, which shines as a positive light against prejudices, fears and racism. Together with other supporters from DBK A space is created in which dialogue and encounters are desired in order to work towards reducing prejudices.

Diverse events for everyone

What can visitors expect in Burg during this week? The IKW offers a colorful program with different types of events. From readings to concerts to workshops and culinary offerings, there is something for everyone. Creative art projects complement the offering and invite active participation. The week will be with thatBridge festival of diversityceremoniously concluded on Saturday, September 27th at the Genthin transition bridge to Uhlandstrasse. From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., participants have the opportunity to reflect on the week's experiences and celebrate the community. The entire week of action is coordinated by the AWO coordinators of the Partnerships for Democracy in Jerichower Land, who actively support the organization.

A signal for solidarity and cohesion

The Intercultural Week not only focuses on diversity, but also on solidarity and human rights, a concern that the DBK is particularly important to the heart. “We have to fight against the right-wing populist wind,” emphasizes Dr. Beate Sträter, chairwoman of the Ecumenical Preparatory Committee. The IKW wants to send signals that encourage and invite people to actively build bridges.

“Refugee Day” on September 26th, which focuses on flight, asylum and migration, also intervenes in the social debate in order to promote constructive dialogue.

Overall, the Intercultural Week 2025 is a successful initiative that not only attracts the local audience, but also sends a powerful signal for solidarity and diverse cooperation.
