Literary festival in Burg: Book premiere on Brigitte Reimann's legacy!

On July 21, 2025, a very special event awaits us in the “Brigitte Reimann” city library in Burg that will attract not only literature lovers, but also history enthusiasts. As part of the 92nd birthday of the renowned writer Brigitte Reimann, Pelikan e.V. is celebrating its 35th anniversary with the book premiere of the anthology “Pelicans on the Storchenhof”. This literary highlight brings together twelve talented authors from Pelikan e.V. and offers exciting insights into the realities of life of people from the region around the Jerichower Land, which extends back to Emperor Otto I. The event starts at 6:00 p.m., doors open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, donations are welcome.

Stadtwerke Burg supports this cultural event, which is supported by the Jerichower Land district. The premiere will be accompanied musically by the talented saxophonist Jansichting from Magdeburg. The tickets are available at the castle tourist information office, in the city library and in the benvivo culture tower and can also be booked online as a self-printout. For further information, please contact Pelikan e.V. on Tel. / WhatsApp 0178 4981815.

Life stories in focus

The anthology not only presents fictional stories, but also reflects the biographical experiences of the regional residents. The people featured include Friedel Große from the Delorme bakery and scissor grinder Heinz Benkewitz. Such vivid representations make the book a valuable witness to regional history and culture.

While people look forward to this literary celebration, the Pregnant With You campaign aims to raise awareness of an important issue that affects many new parents. Around 10-15% of mothers and 5-10% of fathers suffer from depression and anxiety disorders around birth. In order to provide those affected and their relatives with valid information, a new subpage on the subject of postpartum depression and baby blues was created. Here parents can find emotional support and valuable resources to better deal with the challenges after the birth.

Challenges after birth

A powerful example of these emotional challenges is the story of Christa BeauNancy, who gave birth in the water and struggled with fear and anxiety after the birth. The conflict with her partner led to a nervous breakdown, which sent her to a mother-child day clinic. Despite initial doubts, she accepted the suspicion of postpartum depression and battled hallucinations and her fears. Unfortunately, such experiences are not unique and highlight the need to raise awareness about mental health after birth. In addition to current information, the “Pregnant with You” website also offers a self-assessment test for the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) so that you can seek help at an early stage.

The interplay of the literary and the human, promoted through events such as the book premiere and support offers such as the “Pregnant with You” campaign, shows how important it is not only to read and celebrate, but also to have an open ear for the stories and challenges in real life. Knowledge and empathy are the best companions, especially in times of great change such as the birth of a child.
