Equestrian sport fever in Lostau: Big tournament on the weekend!

Equestrian athletes from near and far are flocking to the Jerichower Land: On July 19th and 20th, the eagerly awaited riding and driving tournament will take place in Lostau, organized by Anika Fehse, the chairwoman of the Lostau riding and driving club “von Bredow”. After a break last year, there is great anticipation as around 250 starters are expected to compete for the best places. Participants from Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg and Lower Saxony have announced themselves, and it will be interesting to see who will win the prizes.

The tournament, which is located in the “good midfield” of events in Jerichower Land, covers a variety of disciplines. The offer includes dressage riding for children and young people as well as show jumping competitions for all age groups. Carriage fans will also get their money's worth: one- and two-horse teams are in demand here. There is also an off-road competition with obstacles on a route approximately 3 km long.

Diverse competitions and attractive prizes

For the participants, it won't just be about fame and honor: in some competitions, prize money of up to 350 euros will be awarded to the winners. The Lostau Riding and Driving Club currently has 32 members, including four starters who will try out in the various categories. This includes two children in dressage riding and two participants in the carriages.

Special attention is also paid to young viewers. A bouncy castle and a play street are available for younger visitors, while the community center from Hohenwarthe takes care of their physical well-being. Here visitors can fortify themselves with pizza, ice cream and crepes. Admission prices are cheap: adults pay between 1 and 2 euros, and access for children is even free. The income from the tournament flows into the club's work, in particular for investments in a new supply building and a referee tower.

Equestrian sport in Germany

The enthusiasm for equestrian sport is not only noticeable locally. According to a study by IPSOS, 11.2 million people in Germany are interested in horses and equestrian sports. 2.32 million people describe themselves as riders, with 840,000 being regularly active. This shows the high interest in events such as the Lostauer Tournament and the importance of equestrian sport in German culture.

The German Equestrian Association, as the largest equestrian association in the world, has impressive membership numbers: In 2024 there will be 662,926 members, which illustrates the large community and the solidarity of the riders. In total, there are over 10,000 companies in Germany that are active in the horse sector, and the industry has an estimated turnover of 6.7 billion euros, consisting of horse keeping and services.

All of these factors contribute to the fact that the riding and driving tournament in Lostau is not only a regional event, but also part of a larger, lively network of equestrian activities in Germany. If you have the opportunity, you shouldn't miss this event, as every visitor will be captivated by equestrian sport!
