Education is very important in the Saxony-Anhalt prison system! In the current school year 2024/2025, 21 prisoners paved the way to graduating. A great result that shows how important education is for rehabilitation. The number of school-leaving qualifications successfully completed is divided between the youth facility in Raßnitz and the correctional facility in Burg.

12 school leaving certificates were achieved at the Raßnitz youth center. Here, 5 young men have completed secondary school and 7 have achieved secondary school qualifications. Four men with secondary school qualifications and five with secondary school qualifications were added to the Burg correctional facility. Franziska Weidinger, the Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection in Saxony-Anhalt, emphasizes the importance of these training offers. Focus on educational measures

But that's not all! In the 2023/2024 school year, the efforts to provide education in correctional facilities could not be dismissed. A total of 28 prisoners completed their schooling. In the Raßnitz youth center, 13 prisoners achieved a secondary school leaving certificate, while 9 managed to get a secondary school leaving certificate. In addition, 5 men in the JVA Burg achieved their secondary school leaving certificate and one also received an extended secondary school leaving certificate. The certificates were ceremonially handed over to the prisoners Dubisthalle.

The State Office for Employment and Education of Prisoners (LBBG), which currently employs 103 people, is responsible for the educational offerings. These committed teachers and professional trainers make a significant contribution to ensuring that education is not just a word, but a lived practice in the prison system. External educational providers also play an important role by being involved in school and vocational qualification measures.

The key to rehabilitation

Education in the prison system is not just an issue in Saxony-Anhalt. In other federal states, too, a lot is being done for the school and vocational training of prisoners. In Saxony, for example, around 800 participant places have been set up for various educational offerings, ranging from secondary and secondary school courses to vocational training Bildungsserver.
