Storm chaos in the castle: Fire brigade fights against fallen trees!

On Monday, June 23, 2025, a violent storm cast its spell on the town of Burg in Jerichower Land. The local fire brigade was not only challenged, it was also kept busy, as the operations were literally lined up one after the other. There were a total of four operations within 21 hours, which is a clear sign of the power of the storm.

At around 9:20 a.m., the fire department was alerted to unclear smoke development. On site it turned out that a tree had caught fire. Thanks to the quick response of the emergency services, the fire was quickly extinguished. But that wasn't enough: in the afternoon another tree fell on Wilhelm-Kuhr-Strasse and blocked the way. This second alarm followed quickly: a fallen tree on a country road to Grabow also required the fire department to intervene. Chainsaws were used here to chop up the trees and quickly make the roads passable again.

Frequent assignments across the country

The operations of the Burg fire department are not an isolated case. The emergency services were also heavily challenged in other German cities. The fire department in Hamburg had to put out a burning warehouse. The fire brigade is not only active in fires, but also in opening doors and rescuing people and animals, as TAG24 reports.

The situation is tense across the country. The storm “Zoltan” has already caused numerous operations in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia. In Bochum, trees fell on houses and cars and in Düsseldorf there were around 40 deployments by emergency services, all of which were related to the severe weather conditions. Trains were not spared from the effects of the storm either - delays and cancellations in long-distance and regional transport are the result, according to Deutschlandfunk.

With missions number 113 and 114 this year, the Burg fire brigade has shown that it has a good hand even in the most adverse conditions and can keep the dangers under control. Even if the challenges are great, the firefighters' commitment remains unbroken. Stay safe and heed weather warnings!
