Little hope in Jerichower Land: unemployment remains stubborn
The labor market development in the Jerichower Land district is currently showing a slight relaxation. As of August 31, 2025, 3,345 people are registered as unemployed in the area, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 7.4 percent. These numbers have decreased slightly compared to the previous month. Matthias Kaschte, Chairman of the Management Board of the Saxony-Anhalt North Employment Agency, reports an increased willingness to hire after the summer holidays, which this positive trend has promoted. Nevertheless, the labor market remains challenged by a weakening economy.
The good news: Particularly well-qualified job seekers can currently find numerous suitable positions. The agency focuses primarily on individual support and qualifications in order to reduce unemployment among low-skilled people. According to Meetingpoint-JL there are a variety of options for further training and suitable measures.
Underemployment and job vacancies
Underemployment, which includes both unemployed people and participants in training measures, currently amounts to 4,059 people. There was a decrease of 30 compared to the previous month, and there are also ten fewer compared to the previous year. The underemployment rate is now 8.8 percent. In August of last year, the unemployment rate was 6.9 percent with 3,139 people registered as unemployed.
The figures also show an increase in newly reported jobs: 154 new jobs were registered in August 2025, 29 more than in July. However, the number of jobs overall has fallen – from 760 to 745 positions. In August 2024, 832 jobs were still registered. On the subject of security in the labor market, the Federal Employment Agency offers comprehensive information on its website Labor market statistics.
The monthly reports show that despite the temporary recovery, challenges remain in the labor market landscape, with the accommodation of jobseekers and the fit between supply and demand being key. This is also confirmed by the continuous statistics from [BMAS](https://www.bmas.de/DE/Service/Statistiken-Open-Data/Arbeitsmarkt Statistics/arbeitsmarktstatisticen.html), which regularly monitors and publishes developments.
The next few months will show to what extent the positive attitude towards hiring continues and how the economy is affecting the labor market situation in Jerichower Land. For many employees and job seekers, it remains important to stay on the ball and, if necessary, continue their training in order to be successful in a changing market.
