FCM test games: Looking forward to heated duels against Rot-Weiss and Chemnitz!
An exciting football weekend is on the agenda for 1. FC Magdeburg on Friday and Saturday. Two test matches are planned that will not only test the team's form, but also bring with them the culinary enjoyment of football in the Avnet Arena and at Chemnitzer FC. On Friday at 2 p.m. the Magdeburg team will face Rot-Weiss Essen before going to Chemnitzer FC on Saturday at 4 p.m. The latter game takes place in the stadium on Gellertstrasse.
Rot-Weiss Essen, founded in 1907, can look back on a proud history. With a DFB Cup victory in 1953 and the championship in 1955, the club is very popular locally. Head coach Uwe Koschinat, in office since December 2024, will lead his protégés onto the field in the test match at the end of the summer training camp in Wesendorf. Assistant coach Dominik Ernst, a former FCM player, will support him. Not to be forgotten: Ahmet Arslan, also an ex-FCM player, is pulling the strings in the game.
Test match details
The clash in the Avnet Arena promises an exciting 105 minutes of playing time, divided into three rounds of 35 minutes each. The gates are open: entry is from 1 p.m., tickets are available both in the online shop and at the box office. Anyone who would like to follow the game live can do so via a live stream in cooperation with Volksstimme.
The Magdeburgers will then head to Chemnitz on Saturday, where they will meet another traditional club. Chemnitzer FC, founded in 1966, can look back on the GDR championship in 1967 and finished last season with a solid 7th place in the Regionalliga Nordost. This game will also be broadcast live, with doors opening at 2:30 p.m. and tickets available in the CFC guest shop.
DFB Cup as a highlight
An important highlight is also planned for Rot-Weiss Essen: the club will face RB Leipzig in the first round of the DFB Cup. The draw recently took place at the Football Museum in Dortmund, conducted by ex-national player Nils Petersen. The amateur club has home advantage and will play the match between August 16th and 19th, 2024 in the stadium on Hafenstrasse. Qualification came with a 3-0 win in the Lower Rhine Cup final against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.
The DFB Cup itself has a long tradition with its varying competition format. It was founded in 1935 and has changed several times over the years. This year 64 teams are taking part, including 36 from the Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga as well as numerous amateur teams. The first round always promises surprises, which also attract a lot of attention in media reports.
The upcoming test matches and the upcoming cup game show that there is never any peace in football. The anticipation of the new challenges could not be greater. A real treat for all fans!
