FCM at the start of the season: friendly defeat against FC Zurich in Wörishofen!

1. FC Magdeburg has intensified its preparations for the new season in the 2nd Bundesliga in Bad Wörishofen. On Thursday, July 10, 2025, the players played their last test match against FC Zurich, which took place four times for 30 minutes. Nevertheless, the outcome was anything but pleasant for Magdeburg, who left the field as losers with a score of 2-0. After the game, sports director Otmar Schork and head coach Markus Fiedler answered questions from the media before the team began their journey home. The club thanked the fans who traveled with them and the Parkhotel in Bad Wörishofen for their excellent hospitality.

The goal of the training camp was to give fans a look behind the scenes. The followers were able to gain insights into the team's everyday life through interviews, videos and photos. The preparation phase will continue in the coming days as the players train individually before the next steps in Magdeburg.

Test matches and preparation for the season

But that was just the beginning of the preparation for the season. 1. FC Magdeburg had already scheduled a few test matches. The first kick-off took place on June 25th against Burger BC, followed by another game on June 28th against SV Dessau 05. In this context it can also be mentioned that ex-Magdeburg player Marc-André Jürgen will be on the pitch in the game against Burger BC.

The series of test matches continues: On July 19th, FCM will face Chemnitzer FC and on July 26th there will be a highlight of the preparation - the duel against VfL Wolfsburg in the Avnet Arena. The start of the 2nd Bundesliga season is scheduled for August 1, 2025, one week before the Bundesliga starts its new season. The exact schedule will be published by the German Football League on June 27th.

A look at the competition

For a more comprehensive perspective, it's worth looking at the entire league. As sport.sky.de reports, all second division teams started their preparations at the end of June.
