A major fire on the railway line between Schönebeck and Calbe in the Salzland district has kept emergency services on tenterhooks over the past few days. Fire in Schönebeck: emergency services in continuous operation
City fire chief Daniel Schürmann reported that the Ranies fire department rushed to support with a tank fire engine and a foam mixing system. Wheel loaders were used to cut paths and thus make access to the sources of the fire easier. Straw bale fires pose a particular challenge as access is often difficult. The fire department was finally able to contain the flames with a targeted foam attack.

Additional units from the fire brigades from Elbenau, Felgeleben and Tischlerstrasse were requested to provide support around the fire in Schönebeck. The heavy smoke led to preventive measures for residents, who should keep their windows and doors closed. Fortunately, there were no injuries during the operations. The fire-fighting water supply was ensured by the municipal utility's stable hydrant network, and the fire was finally extinguished around 10:30 a.m.
The follow-up to the operation included thorough cleaning of the vehicles, equipment and emergency clothing so that the fire brigade was fully operational again a short time later.
