Students in Magdeburg are working on a translation of Home Pt. 2” with Ted Stanetzky
Yesterday, on October 27th, 2025, a very special event took place at the Erich Kästner School in Magdeburg: an English lesson led by Radio SAW presenter Ted Stanetzky. The students in class 6/1 had the opportunity to creatively engage with the song “Home Pt. 2” by Nico Santos. The children worked intensively on the German translation of the lyrics, which impressively demonstrated the students' enjoyment of the language and their creativity. At the end of the lesson, the kids proudly posed for a class photo with Stanetzky before their work will be broadcast on Radio SAW starting Friday, October 31, 2025.
But what does such musical education mean for children? The Bertelsmann Foundation has emphasized the importance of music in early education for many years. As described in the “Musical Education” initiative, the foundation aims to promote the positive power of music in daycare centers and schools. Music connects, creates social cohesion and is a valuable instrument for developing children's values. This commitment is also reflected in the NEUE STIMMEN competition, which offers support to young talents on their musical path. This not only teaches children the joy of singing, but also creates a space in which they can discover and develop their talents.
Creative approaches in teaching
The activities in the Magdeburg school are an example of innovative teaching methods that make learning more lively. The students, including Tom, Emely, Anna Lena, Louis, Maike, Fabian and Ilayda, spoke the lyrics of the song and deepened their sense of language. Such projects are an excellent way to make English lessons more exciting and tangible. In addition, interested classes can apply to take part in such events, which promotes equal opportunities and accessibility for all students.
How hard will it be for students to develop their skills? A look at the challenges that come with creative professions shows that not only commitment but also a lot of practice is required. With its extensive work, the Bertelsmann Foundation ensures that children are encouraged to explore their musical abilities at an early age. This not only promotes art, but also strengthens the children's self-confidence.
The combination of musical education and practical application, as practiced at the Erich Kästner School, shows how important it is to support children in a variety of ways. Radio SAW's commitment to school education helps ensure the next generation grows up in a creative and supportive environment.
For everyone interested in music and creative projects, the current event is a shining example. It turns out that having fun and enjoying what you do can also give new impetus to traditional subjects such as English. Cheers to the possibilities music offers for our children's education!
