Change of coach at 1. FC Magdeburg: Fiedler follows Titz!

Today, June 15, 2025, there are big changes in the world of football at 1. FC Magdeburg. Christian Titz has given up the coaching position at Magdeburg and is moving to Hannover 96, who have offered him a two-year contract. This decision comes after a successful tenure that led FCM to the 2022 3rd League championship and most recently an impressive 5th place in the 2nd Bundesliga. Otmar Schork, the FCM's managing director of sports, described Titz's departure as a "blow in the neck" for the club, as with 1,581 days in office he had the third-longest coaching tenure in the club's history since reunification. The official confirmation of Titz and his assistant coach André Kilian's move to Hannover 96 comes after months of speculation about a possible separation and was already made public by Schork on May 21st.

But who will now take over the reins at 1. FC Magdeburg? Markus Fiedler, who previously coached VfB Stuttgart's second team, will be the new head coach. Fiedler, who has been at VfB since 2023 and led the team to promotion to the 3rd league, will lead his first training session on June 23rd. His decision to leave VfB was not easy for him, but he sees taking on the challenge at FCM as a great opportunity. Schork praised Fiedler's work in Stuttgart and is excited about the new era together.

A change in the coaching sector

Coach changes are not uncommon in football. The data shows that numerous coaching positions have been filled between the 1963/1964 season and the current 2024/2025 season. These constant changes are particularly noticeable in the 1st Bundesliga, where the coaching chairs are often hotly contested. Fiedler's task will now be to bring continuity and stability to the team that has grown under Titz.

The coming weeks will be crucial for Fiedler, as he not only prepares the team for the upcoming challenges in the new season, but also provides the spiritual successor to the successful Titz. Training will be particularly important in the first week of preparations to reset the team and embed the new coach's ideas.

With Titz now looking forward to new tasks at Hannover 96 and Fiedler's arrival at 1. FC Magdeburg, an exciting time lies ahead for both clubs. For the FCM, this coaching change could mean a change in the sporting perspective, and the fans remain hopeful that a new, successful chapter can be opened in the club under Fiedler's leadership.
