Coach change at FCM: Titz leaves, Fiedler comes – new era begins!
A change at 1. FC Magdeburg: Christian Titz will leave the club after four and a half years and move to Hannover 96. The coach, who transformed the FCM from a relegation candidate in the third division into an established second division team, will receive a two-year contract there. At the same time, his successor has now been announced: Markus Fiedler, previous coach of the second team at VfB Stuttgart, is taking over the reins at the traditional Magdeburg club.
Fiedler, who is considered dynamic and tactically adept, has done an excellent job in the past and led VfB Stuttgart's U23s from the regional league to the 3rd league. He would now like to continue this positive development at FCM. "1. FC Magdeburg is a traditional club with great fans and an impressive history. I would like to help ensure that this positive sporting path continues," said Fiedler about his new commitment. He will lead his first training session on June 23, 2025, as MDR reports.
Titz's achievements and farewell
Titz celebrated many successes during his time at 1. FC Magdeburg. The highlight was the 2022 championship in the 3rd league, which secured promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. Last season the FCM achieved a respectable 5th place. “His departure is a blow to the neck for us, but we have done a great job over the last four and a half years,” explained sports director Otmar Schork, who always emphasized the collaboration with Titz as positive. Under his leadership, Titz established a successful football system and brought in many suitable players, which strengthened the FCM in the long term. His assistant coach André Kilian will also move with him to Hannover 96.
Fiedler now has to quickly adapt to the conditions of the club in his new role. Questions are already being raised about the future of many players, including Baris Atik, who particularly flourished under Titz. However, Schork emphasizes that the continuity in coaching and club leadership over the last few years has contributed significantly to its success. Fresh impulses are now needed to find the right direction in preparation for the season, while at the same time the FCM has to reinvent itself.
The transfer fees at a glance
The transfer fee for Titz was 500,000 euros, while Fiedler's move was made for 300,000 euros. These sums not only reflect the appreciation of the coaches, but also show the financial pressure more clearly than ever on the football market. Schork explained that the signing of Fiedler was a good decision for the future of the club, which wanted to bring a breath of fresh air into the game with him. A challenge that everyone involved tackles with excitement and determination.
An exciting time lies ahead in Magdeburg. With Fiedler at the helm, the FCM would like to build on the successes of previous years and continue on the path it has chosen. Eyes are on the first training session – a time of change has begun.
