Diversity in focus: Magdeburg's university sets an example for equal opportunities!
To promote diversity in the world of work, two important institutions in Germany have taken an important step. The Medical Faculty of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, together with the University Hospital Magdeburg A.ö.R., signed the Diversity Charter on June 18, 2025. This commitment is part of the University Medical Center Magdeburg (UMMD) and reflects the ever-growing importance of diversity in the corporate culture. “Diversity is an attitude,” emphasizes the Diversity Charter, as it is intended to contribute to a fairer and more respectful working world. This is particularly underlined by the recognition and appreciation of all employees, regardless of their nationality, age, gender, religion or health abilities.
Signing the Charter is a clear sign of strengthening equal opportunities and promoting an equal community. As part of a comprehensive diversity audit, OVGU will break down barriers and develop a culture that not only recognizes diversity, but actively practices it. This is done through tailored workshops and training sessions delivered over 18 months. Managers are also trained to bring about lasting change.
A sound for equal opportunities
A particular focus is on inclusion and social background. With the “Shaping Diversity” certificate, the OVGU would like to set an example and promote an open, pluralistic community. This means that all members of society, regardless of their realities, are treated equally and have access to fair conditions. In Germany, diversity is being discussed intensively, while in the USA companies are rethinking their DEI strategies. The Diversity Charter demands that both companies and institutions take a clear stand and take responsibility for appreciative cooperation.
Another example of commitment to diversity is shown by the Arsipa Group, which recently joined the Diversity Charter. As one of the largest occupational safety service providers in German-speaking countries, the Arsipa Group is reinforcing its goal of promoting a respectful and fair corporate culture by joining. This collaboration shows how companies can benefit from social changes - for example through migration, equality and inclusion, which are influenced by a change in values in society.
Diversity as an opportunity
As the Austrian Chamber of Commerce reports, variety and diversity are becoming increasingly important in companies. Companies are required to adapt to social changes and actively shape them. Demographic change and European unity are key drivers that bring not only challenges but also exciting opportunities.
In summary, it can be said that the signing of the Diversity Charter by the OVGU Medical Faculty and the Magdeburg University Hospital is a groundbreaking step towards a diverse and inclusive future. This sends a strong signal that resonates not only within the institutions, but also in broader society.
