Preparation of 1. FC Magdeburg: Lactate tests for the new season!
The second division team of 1. FC Magdeburg began its preparation for the new season on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. In brilliant weather, the players gathered for the obligatory lactate test, an important component in performance diagnostics in order to assess the athletes' current condition and to optimally design the training plans. The lactate test is considered essential as it helps to determine the players' maximum performance and avoid any overload that could damage the body. It was tested until the cardiovascular system was overloaded, which ultimately led to hyperacidification of the muscles, which, according to Sportmedizin München, is explained by anaerobic metabolism.
Among the participants were new signing Nick Meier as well as loan returnees Andi Hoti, Aleksa Marusic and Robert Leipertz. Divided into groups, the players completed laps in the running hall next to the club's training grounds. The training sessions were accompanied by comprehensive sports medical examinations, which included not only physiotherapy but also orthopedic checks in the rooms of the Avnet Arena.
Exams for the best possible performance
Further tests and a strength session are on the program on Thursday. These measures are by no means just a formality, but offer trainers and the medical team valuable insights to develop individual training plans. The lactate analysis, which is obtained from a small drop of capillary blood, is included in the examination. Among other things, the heart rate, maximum wattage and maximum running speed are determined.
Particular attention is paid to blood pressure behavior under stress, which contributes to health assessment and, if necessary, can also provide information about possible high blood pressure problems. Lactate performance diagnostics are carried out in practice in accordance with the strict guidelines of the German Society for Sports Medicine and Prevention (DGSP). Only facilities that bear the quality seal for medical lactate performance diagnostics guarantee implementation at a high level, as DGSP reports.
The new training therefore has an exciting few months ahead of it for both the players and the coaching team. It remains to be seen how the team will develop under the pressure of intensive testing and what progress they can make in the coming season.
