crime figures and developments
Although the decline in the crime rate in Germany is recorded in the police crime statistics (PKS) for 2024, there is still an increase in crimes that affect people's feeling of security. A decline was recorded by 1.7 % to around 5.84 million crimes, mainly due to the partialization of cannabis, which has been in force since April 1, 2024. However, this relief does not compensate for the growing concern through reporting on burglary theft or robberies, as Statista.
The fact that the most common crimes in 2024 are thefts, asset and counterfeiting offenses. Despite the general acceptance of suspects, who retired by around 3 % to around 2.18 million in 2024, the number of non -German suspects increases to 41.8 %. The feeling of security in the affected cities could suffer significantly due to the increased visibility of such incidents.
Overall, there is a complex picture of crime in Germany: While some crimes go back, the fear of certain crimes remains in the population. The police hope for information from the population to identify the perpetrators and to restore the feeling of security.
