Severe thunderstorm warning: heavy rain and storm over Saxony-Anhalt!
The sky over Saxony-Anhalt is gathering: violent thunderstorms and heavy rain are imminent, according to a warning from the German Weather Service (DWD). Accordingly, the population is warned of possible dangers as the weather situation worsens on June 26, 2025. The west of the state is particularly affected, where warnings of lightning strikes, falling trees, hail and stormy gusts are heating up tempers.
But it's not just the danger of lightning that's causing unrest. As a result of the announced heavy rain, which can locally bring up to 30 l/sqm in a short period of time, street flooding and aquaplaning are on the list of expected problems. Drivers should be prepared for possible obstacles, especially in the Harz and Mansfeld Südharz districts. According to tag24.de, heavy gusts of between 70 and 85 km/h are also expected, which will make the situation even more dangerous.
Weather conditions and forecasts
The current weather situation is characterized by a strong influence of low pressure, which directs the very warm and thunderstorm-prone air to Saxony-Anhalt. The DWD issued the warning on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. The thunderstorms will first become visible in the afternoon and evening. As mdr.de reports, stormy gusts of up to 105 km/h (Bft 10 to 11) can even occur. This means increased risk of dangerous situations, especially for trees and unstable structures.
The entire region should prepare for the development of thunderstorms moving in from the west. Gusts of between 65 and 85 km/h can be expected, especially on the Brocken. The situation will ease on Friday night, but even then the wind will remain active from the southwest at up to 55 km/h.
Storm warnings at a glance
The Severe Weather Center offers an overview of the different warning levels: from advance warnings in yellow, which are issued up to 48 hours in advance, to acute warnings, which confirm the occurrence of the natural hazard.
