Latest daycare funding: Saxony-Anhalt receives 93 million for educators!
In Saxony-Anhalt there are signs of change in the area of early childhood education. The federal government has provided a funding framework of around 93 million euros for the coming years to support daycare centers through further training and additional positions for educators. The main aim of this is to overcome challenges such as a decline in birth rates and a lack of staff. This information can be found in a recent report by MDR.
The Third Kita Quality Act aims to strengthen educator teams and at the same time relieve the burden on families. A central element is the creation of 255 new full-time positions in daycare centers, many of which will be permanent. The Social Committee has already taken steps to set the course for the new child support law. From 2025/26, the existing multi-child relief will also be continued in order to help families with daycare contributions, as in another report from Sachsen-Anhalt.de described.
Skilled workers and training
As part of this funding, up to 20,000 educational professionals will take part in further training in early childhood education. The goal is clear: to recruit more educators and thus improve the quality of care. Particular attention is paid to the release of skilled workers, for which around 12.8 million euros are planned in 2026. These measures come at exactly the right time, as more and more daycare centers are confronted with the challenges of declining numbers of children and inadequate staff.
The state of Saxony-Anhalt has one of the highest skilled worker rates in a nationwide comparison: in 2023, 78% of the daycare teams had at least a relevant technical school qualification, while the national average is only 32%. These statistics show how important the work of specialists is for the care landscape. In addition, career changers can continue to be supported, making it easier to enter the profession Sachsen-Anhalt.de.
Competence centers for early childhood education
There are also special competence centers for early childhood education in Saxony-Anhalt, which act as places for further training and exchange. These institutions, which have been funded as part of a state project since 2006, have set themselves the goal of maintaining education, upbringing and care services at a high level and ensuring individual support for each child. They also provide open opportunities for parents and other interested parties to share experiences and best practices. Further information can be found on the website LVWA Saxony-Anhalt.
Finally, it remains to be hoped that the measures to strengthen daycare centers and their specialists bear fruit. The compatibility of work and family life as well as the education of our little ones must not be lost sight of. Politicians are called upon to continue to create good framework conditions so that families and children in Saxony-Anhalt receive the best possible support.
