Raid hits major drug ring: 80 kilos of drugs seized in Saxony!

On July 6, 2025, police in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt carried out a significant crackdown on drug trafficking. During a large-scale raid, massive amounts of drugs were seized in a total of 26 properties, mostly in the Burgenland district. Around 80 kilograms of drugs, worth over 1 million euros in street trade, fell into the hands of the authorities, including crystal meth, marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy. Weapons and several high-quality vehicles also ended up in the hands of the police, who carried out the operation with the support of the state riot police and the LKA Saxony-Anhalt. [MDR reports that](https://www.mdr.de/nachrichten/sachsen-anhalt/halle/burgenland/drogen-fund-razzia-kokain-cannabis-ecstasy-crystal- Waffen-104~amp.html) five men were taken into custody, while another suspect remains at large.

The raids were the result of an investigation by the Halle public prosecutor's office, which included suspicions of gang-related and illicit trafficking in narcotics and cannabis products. Six men between the ages of 25 and 36 were temporarily arrested. In addition to the drugs, the officers also found several thousand euros in cash, blank guns and prohibited pyrotechnics. Blick reports that the search took place in 21 houses in the Burgenland district and five in Saxony.

Trending drug use

These investigations are particularly relevant because drug consumption in Germany has increased significantly in recent years. According to a recent study, almost five million adults (9.6 percent) used illegal drugs, including cannabis, in 2021. Particularly notable is the increase in cocaine use, which rose from 0.6 percent in 2015 to 1.6 percent in 2021. Tagesschau informs that drug trafficking is increasingly carried out via the darknet and messenger services such as Telegram, which increases the challenges for the investigative authorities.

The federal government's drug commissioner, Burkhard Blienert, expressed concern about the development and called for a more intensive fight against organized trafficking and a focus on prevention, advice and therapy. Esther Neumeier, head of the German Observatory for Drugs and Drug Addiction, sees the need for closer networking between actors at national and local levels.

The drug raid in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt not only highlights the current challenges in combating drug trafficking, but also the increasing interconnection between crime and social trends. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop and what steps those responsible will take to counteract this serious problem.
