Domestic violence in the Saale district: seriously injured and suspected perpetrator on the run
A serious case of domestic violence shocked the Saale district on Saturday evening. The police were called to an operation at 10:30 p.m. to prevent an escalation in an apartment. Two people, relatives of the affected woman and her partner, had to be taken to hospital due to serious but non-life-threatening injuries. There was also an infant in the house during the argument, which is why the youth welfare office was informed. The woman affected was uninjured, but the suspected perpetrator is on the run. He is being investigated for threats, grievous bodily harm, property damage and theft, as MDR reports.
In recent years, attention to the issue of domestic violence has increased significantly. In 2023, around 181,000 of the approximately 256,000 victims of domestic violence in Germany were female. What is particularly alarming is that many crimes occur in the family or personal environment; they are often only recorded in cases registered by the police - so the dark field is large. The shame and fear of blame lead to many of those affected remaining silent, as n-tv impressively shows.
Protective measures and support for those affected
The police immediately took protective measures for the woman concerned. It is important for victims of domestic violence to know that they are not alone. Police are encouraging anyone affected to seek help. Every report is taken seriously and there are numerous support services that work closely with victim protection organizations. Information on legal and psychosocial help is available via the “Violence against Women” helpline on 116 016, which can be reached 24 hours a day. Advisory services such as Wildwasser Magdeburg and Lichtung Halle are also available, as Statista reports.
Society is called upon to stop viewing the issue of domestic violence as a “private matter”. Each of us can play a part in raising awareness of this problem and offering help to those affected. It is a shared responsibility to create a safe environment for everyone.
